Guide for replacing the windscreen on APE 50

When replacing the windshield on an APE 50, it is important that you take your time and follow the guide in the APE 50 Workshop Manual and this guide from Sika.

Preparation:

1. Safety: Make sure you wear appropriate safety equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
2. Tools and materials: You will need the following:

Procedure:

1. Remove the old windshield:

  • Use the cutting wire to carefully cut around the old windshield.
  • Carefully remove the old windshield, making sure to remove all traces of glue and glass.
  • Clean the frame thoroughly with isopropanol and a cloth to remove dirt and grease.

2. Apply primer:

  • Apply a thin layer of primer to the frame with a spatula.
  • Let the primer dry for approximately 10 minutes.

3. Apply activator:

  • Apply a thin layer of activator to the new windshield with a spatula.

4. Install the new windshield:

  • Carefully place the new windshield on the frame and make sure it is properly aligned.
  • Gently press the windshield to ensure good adhesion.

5. Remove excess glue:

  • Immediately remove excess glue with a damp cloth.

6. Allow the glue to dry:

  • Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours before driving your Piaggio Ape 50.

Tips:

  • Work in a clean and dry area.
  • Make sure the temperature is between 5°C and 35°C during installation.
  • Follow the instructions in the SIKA Tack Drive Premium Repair kit carefully.
